The Summer Camp Coach leads summer camp student engagement and implementation of the summer camp curriculum. This includes welcoming students, setting up camp equipment, delegating and facilitating camp games, social-emotional learning discussions with students , supervising snack and water breaks, overseeing student dismissal, answering parent questions, and cleaning up camp equipment.

Schedule

Camp is scheduled to start June 24th and ends July 25th. Summer camp runs Monday-Thursday from 9am-12pm or 12pm-3pm depending on the school site. Head Coaches are expected to arrive 30 minutes before camp starts and stay 30 minutes after camp has ended for the day. Assistant Coaches are expected to arrive 15 minutes before camp starts and stay 15 minutes after camp has ended for the day.

Position Descriptions

The Head Coach dedicates their time to the oversight of the program by recruiting participants, managing participant safety, implementing program services, managing paperwork and assisting with program evaluation. With support from their program manager, head coaches are responsible for maintaining high quality and consistent programming.

The Assistant Coach dedicates their time to supporting the head coach, fostering participant safety, and implementing program services. With support from their program manager and head coach, they will be responsible for maintaining high quality and consistent programming.

Compensation

  • Summer Camp - Assistant Coach - $21/hour, 3.5 hours per day, 4 days per week
  • Summer Camp - Head Coach $35/hour* - 4 hours per day, 4 days per week

*Teachers with a PEL or Paraprofessional License - $55.74/hour.

Requirements

  • Working with children of all ages
  • Must be able to pass a rigorous background screening 
  • Ability to manage a group of 15 student
  • Adhere to Urban Initiatives’ Code of Ethics
  • Effective communication skills
  • Highly adaptable and enthusiastic about working with youth
  • Initiative and ability to self-manage and lead wherever needed
  • Ability to participate in sustained physical activity
  • Attend paid training on June 18th, 12:00pm-4:00pm. Make-up date June 20th virtually.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Student behavior management during camp activities and breaks. 
  • Delegate and facilitate games and activities to promote healthy physical activity and positive interactions
  • Parent communication at drop off and pick up and occasionally through parent phone calls when needed
  • Lead daily social-emotional learning discussions as part of the daily camp conclusion
  • Apply first aid as needed in the event of student injury
  • Ensure students are actively engaging in games and activities
  • Weekly 30-minute check-in calls with assigned Program Manager
